Team Relay Cycling Challenge Monday 17 August 2026 | 6:00am – 6:00pmMaindy Velodrome, Cardiff, CF14 3AJ Join us for this exciting 12-hour sponsored team cycling challenge bringing together cyclists, clubs, teams, and supporters from across South Wales to celebrate 30 years of Pedal Power Cardiff, whilst raising vital funds for a charity at the heart of Cardiff’s cycling community. For 12 continuous hours, teams will take turns riding in relay format around Maindy Velodrome’s 460m banked track, with one rider from each team on the track at any one time. This is a team endurance challenge focused on consistency, teamwork, and the unique experience of riding on a velodrome track whilst fundraising for Pedal Power Cardiff. Each team member will be encouraged to raise a minimum of £100, helping to provide adapted cycles, supported sessions, and opportunities for people who might not otherwise be able to cycle. We support disabled people and those who face barriers to cycling by providing non-standard accessible cycles, welcoming environments, and opportunities to build confidence, independence, and connection through cycling. Founded as a small project at Ely Hospital in 1996, Pedal Power has grown into a much-loved charity supporting hundreds of riders every year. In 2026, we proudly celebrate our 30th anniversary. How the Challenge Works Teams should have a suggested minimum of 6 riders, with most teams expected to have 6–12 participants The event runs as a 12-hour relay with one rider per team on the track at any one time Each hour includes a 5-minute transition period for safe rider handovers More frequent rider changes can be accommodated if needed Each team will need to agree the sequence of riders and ensure team members are at the track at the correct time for their session Riders may use bicycles, tandems, or recumbents Fixed-wheel cycles are not permitted for safety reasons All cycles must be in good working condition, safe to use on the track, and suitable for the event Cycling helmets and gloves must be worn at all times Appropriate protective clothing must be worn at all times. Sponsorship is based on completing the 12-hour challenge, not distance ridden Teams are welcome to track mileage using Strava or another platform if they wish Each team member will be encouraged to raise a minimum of £100 Riders must participate as part of a team. During registration, participants will be asked whether they would like to: Create a new team, or Join your existing team No team? The Team Captain will: Be the first member of the team to register and create the team fundraising page Update and manage the team page on Enthuse Be the main point of contact with Pedal Power Cardiff Invite team members to join the team Team members can then: Join the team via an invitation link shared by the Team Captain, or Search for and join an existing team during registration After registering, each participant will automatically receive their own Enthuse fundraising page, which can be personalised and shared with friends, family, and supporters. We ask each rider to aim to raise at least £100 in sponsorship, with teams encouraged to work towards a collective fundraising target of £1,000. Anyone aged 11+ can take part as part of a registered team. Riders under 16 will require guardian consent, including guardian contact details and previous experience riding on a banked track. The event is best suited to cyclists who are comfortable taking part in a relay challenge on a velodrome. How many people do I need in a team? Most teams are expected to have around 6–12 participants. Between your team, you will need to cover 12 one-hour relay slots. Smaller teams are welcome; however, we encourage all teams to work towards an overall fundraising target of at least £1,000 per team. Do we all ride at the same time? No. The challenge is run as a relay, with one rider from each team on the track at any one time. Do I need to be an experienced cyclist? Participants should feel confident completing their relay session on a velodrome track. What cycles are allowed? Participants may use bicycles, tandems, and recumbents. Fixed-wheel cycles are not permitted for this event. Please confirm during registration which type of cycle you will be using and ensure your cycle is in good working condition and safe to use on the track. Are fixed-wheel bikes allowed? No. Fixed-wheel cycles are not permitted for safety reasons. Is there a fundraising target? We encourage each rider to raise a minimum of £100, with teams aiming to raise at least £1,000 collectively. What should I bring? Please bring suitable cycling clothing, a helmet, gloves, weather protection, refreshments, water, and any equipment you may need during the day. Is parking available?
